About the program
Firefly offers personalized home visits for families expecting or with children aged 0-3 in Pottawattamie County. Our visits are led by qualified, certified home visitors. We’re proud partners of Parents As Teachers, a proven early childhood curriculum aimed at nurturing children’s development to their maximum potential. Recognized for excellence, Firefly’s Parents As Teachers Home Visitation Program earned the Iowa Family Support Credential in December 2012, reaffirmed in November 2018.
Home visits provide parent education and modeling for child development to assist parents in their role as their child’s first and most influential teacher. Home visits encourage learning through play, creative expressions and guided activities that include the culture and linguistic literacy of each child and family. Assistance is also provided to families by connecting with community resources. After enrollment, the families may receive visits until they no longer need the service, or their child enters preschool or school.
