Firefly Employees Present Donation Towards New Building

Firefly, previously known as Family Inc., presented its own staff’s personal contributions toward its new location Wednesday morning.

Firefly is moving to the Charles E. Lakin Human Services Campus from its current location on the campus of Iowa School for the Deaf.

The Lakin Campus, with the help of the Southwest Iowa Nonprofit for Collective Impact, has been conducting a capital campaign to fund the addition of the new building for Firefly.

Firefly employees, board members and directors pooled together $2,800 out of their own pockets in support. The check was presented to Clarissa Newman, campus coordinator at the Lakin Campus.

“It’s our way of saying we too support our project,” said Kimberly Kolakowski, executive director of Firefly.

The goal of the capital campaign is to raise $14.1 million. Right now, the campaign is around $200,000 away from meeting the goal.

“It’s great for people looking to invest in something with significant impact,” said Kolakowski.

The new office will be in a building amongst four other organizations, such as Together Inc., Iowa Legal Aid and the Micah House.

Firefly is excited about the new opportunities that will come with the move, Kolakowski said.

The Lakin Campus “will be like a one-stop shop for individuals in need,” Kolakowski said. “They can receive the help they need without having to go here for this and here for that.”
